She Wakes

Against her wishes

She Wakes. Against her wishes. A poem by Colleen Millsteed.

A young woman wakes each morning
Then closes her eyes once more,
She tries her hardest to go back to sleep
What has she got to wake for?

Try as she might sleep eludes her
So she lays there trying to find a way,
To drag herself up out of bed
And find the strength to face the day.

Once out she takes a look around her
And if she wasn’t depressed before, she is now,
What has she got to highlight her day
The dishes, the cleaning,…….oh wow!!!

You ask how I know what she’s feeling
How could I possibly see?
Well the answer to that is simple
Because that young woman is me!!!

Thank you for reading
