Once Black And White. Now the colours are starting to shine once again. A Poem written by Colleen Millsteed.

It has now been almost two decades long
I’ve lived here in a world of black and white,
The colour had been leeched from my life
I look through eyes that see dark not light.

My body alive with blood that runs black
Pumped non stop by a heart grown dark,
Heightened solid black walls protected it
Not much in my life that caused a spark.

My thoughts were restricted, closed off
My world allowed to grow extra small,
Only two special souls given free access
The rest of the world not allowed in at all.

But lately I’ve begun noticing the sun rises
As it climbs the world in all its’ stunning glory,
Bright colours slowly fading in its’ wake
Colourful regardless of its’ past life story.

I glanced outside today and notice in delight
Bright red flowers of the magnificent flame tree,
Advertising Christmas is just around the corner
I’m allowing colour in and setting the dark free.
