On Loan
If you need me just shout
I’ve always been fully aware
That you were only given to me on loan,
I also knew this day would be hard
The day you decided to head out on your own.
I poured my heart and soul into my role
Usually at the expense of all else,
For 22 years I put life on hold
To give you the tools to become yourself.
I did the very best I could with all I had
Always putting your needs first,
To be both you mum and your dad
You could have done a lot worst.
You recently pointed out my failures
Mostly that I gave you too much,
I’m sorry but that’s who I am
And could never change that as such.
I can only pray that I have done enough
To help you succeed from here on out,
That I’ve given you all the tools to survive
But remember if you need me just shout.
