Fourty Years

A miracle today

Fourty Years. A miracle today. A poem by Colleen Millsteed.

I spotted something today
That almost made me cry,
She was sixty three
And he was seventy five.

He was lying in a hospital bed
She refused to leave his side,
He was her husband
And she was his bride.

Fourty years we’ve been married
That’s what I heard them say,
I wonder if they know how lucky they are
As that’s a miracle today.

I couldn’t take my eyes off them
They were in a world of their own,
Only there for each other
In their own personal zone.

But you know what really surprised me
The love that shone in their eyes,
After all those fourty years
Their love had never died.

Thank you for reading
